About Us

Letchworth Music has been established as the premier venue for chamber music in the area for over 60 years.

Each season we hold seven concerts, which are given by professional national and international musicians of the highest calibre, and an AGM. As part of our season we also provide a platform for young musicians who are prize-winners at the major Music Conservatoires.

Music is a wonderful way to relax and meet new friends and at Howgills we present superb music in a comfortable and friendly setting. The hall is the ideal size for chamber music and the acoustics are excellent.

The music ranges from Baroque right up to new developments in the classical music world. Musicians find Howgills is the perfect home for chamber music and all are warmly welcome to join us for an evening of wonderful music.

Free car parking is available in South View.

We are affiliated to MAKING MUSIC and are grateful to those organisations which assist us financially: Making Music Philip and Dorothy Green Award for Young Concert Artists, The Countess of Munster Musical Trust, The Tillett Trust.

Sadly, at present Letchworth Music has insufficient funds to run a full season of chamber music concerts featuring players drawn from across the country and overseas. Instead, we plan to organise ad hoc concerts over the next year, showcasing the tremendous talent which is to be found within the county. A number of our local players appear on the national and international stage, while many of Hertfordshire’s teachers are also performers of the highest calibre.

At the moment we’re taking our usual summer break, but are planning a September concert with more, we hope, to follow.

If you are already on our mailing list you will of course be notified about all concerts. However, if you don’t currently receive emails from us, but would like to be kept informed of our future programmes, please contact Marion Ohlendorf at rmohlendorf@gmail.com
