LETCHWORTH MUSIC COMPETITION FOR TALENTED YOUNG MUSICIANS 2025/26
We are very pleased to announce that the Letchworth Heritage Foundation has decided to support us for this coming year so we are now going ahead with our second competition for Talented Young Musicians who either live or attend a school which is within a 10 kilometre radius of Howgills, 42 South View, Letchworth, Hertfordshire, SG6 3JJ where the club meets. This year we are restricting the competition to instrumentalists and there will be a maximum number of 18 students taking part. This is to enable more time for the judges to provide feedback to musicians and teachers. Applicants should be in school years 7- 13 and have achieved a minimum standard of Grade 6. They will be judged on their musical ability and also their general presentation.
There will be monetary prizes for the winners. The first round will take place on 4th February 2026 and the final will be held on 18th march 2026. Both events will be at Howgills.
Musicians will be asked to play for a maximum of 4 minutes each. They should bring their own accompanist plus a copy of the music. Friends and family will be able to come along as well.
Individual performers (excluding singers) will be accepted on any instrument covered by the recognised examining boards (ie ABRSM, Trinity) and should have reached a minimum standard of Grade 6.
Please note the closing date for entry is 12th January 2026. As we will be restricting numbers to 18, if we reach that figure before the closing date, those additional names will have to go on a reserve list and cannot be guaranteed a place. Therefore, it is essential for entries to be submitted as soon as possible.
